Facial volumetry - how to regain a younger look without a scalpel?

Volumetry Wrocław

Between the ages of 25 and 30, the first fine lines appear on the face. As a result of the loss of elastin and collagen, the facial contour also begins to sag. This is often the moment when patients start to consider rejuvenating treatments. Thanks to advances in aesthetic medicine, it is possible to halt or reverse the effects of skin ageing without a scalpel. Facial volumetry is becoming increasingly popular with patients. What does this treatment involve and what results does it give?

What is facial volumetry?

Facial volumetry (volume restoration) involves contouring the face with hyaluronic acid - a substance that occurs naturally in the skin and is responsible for binding water. The aim of the treatment is to restore the volume of the soft tissues and to increase the elasticity and hydration of the skin.

The exact course and duration of the treatment depend above all on the individual needs of the patient. The treatment plan is agreed during a medical consultation. This is an important stage of the whole procedure, not least because contraindications need to be ruled out. These include, among others:

  • pregnancy and breastfeeding,
  • active inflammation and skin diseases,
  • autoimmune diseases,
  • taking blood-thinning medicines,
  • blood clotting disorders.

Taking into account the results the patient expects, the doctor selects the appropriate amount of hyaluronic acid and decides where it will be injected. The treatment itself is performed under local anaesthesia, is relatively short (usually about half an hour) and minimally invasive. This is one of the reasons for its popularity.

After the procedure, you should avoid intense exertion and sun exposure. It is also important to follow all of the doctor's instructions. Bear in mind that after the treatment your face may be red and you may feel slight pain - these symptoms should resolve on their own after about 3 days.

When is it worth choosing facial volumetry?

Facial volumetry is recommended for all patients who want to rejuvenate their face, as well as for those who are not satisfied with their appearance. The method works particularly well for a sagging facial contour, sagging cheeks and an uneven contour. Men often want a more defined jawline and more pronounced masculine features, while women often want to accentuate their cheekbones. The treatment is also used to fill the “tear trough” and to even out areas of volume loss in the face.

A rejuvenating effect with facial volumetry

The main aim of volumetry is to rejuvenate the face and improve the facial contour. The hyaluronic acid treatment also helps to firm and hydrate the skin and to reduce the visibility of wrinkles and folds. Volumetry restores the volume of the face that decreases with age as a result of the loss of fat tissue and collagen. It also improves proportions and symmetry.

The first results are visible shortly after the treatment and usually last from 12 to 18 months. Volumetry is therefore a way to rejuvenate the appearance of the face in the long term without the need for surgery.

The effectiveness of volumetry confirmed by research

Numerous studies confirm the effectiveness of hyaluronic acid in lifting the facial contour. A scientific article from 2025 describes the results of treating 15 patients aged 19-70 with moderate volume deficiency in the midface [4].

Patient satisfaction on the GAIS scale averaged 5 at two and four weeks after the treatment, and after 24 weeks it fell slightly to 4.53 ± 0.52. Skin hydration improved markedly - the baseline value was 66.53 ± 9.75 and rose to 71.77 ± 9.74 at week two and 75.34 ± 7.67 after 6 months. The treatment also reduced transepidermal water loss. At baseline it was 12.22 ± 2.21 g/h/m2, and it fell to 9.91 ± 3.37, p < 0.01 after 24 weeks.

A study carried out in Poland in 2020 on a group of 50 female patients also confirmed a high level of satisfaction with the results of facial volumetry [2]. As many as 88% reported being satisfied with the results, and 80% said that volumetry had improved their quality of life.
